This creamy crockpot chicken is made in the slow cooker with just 4 simple ingredients. This meal has been a family favorite for years and is perfect for busy weeknights.
Crockpot Italian Chicken
This creamy crockpot Italian chicken is one of my all-time favorite meals! My aunt gave this recipe to me when I was first married and we have been making it ever since. It is SO delicious and super easy to make.
This is one of those super easy “forget and go” 5-ingredient crockpot meals! You add everything to the slow cooker and that’s it! Then dinner is ready a few hours later. We love to serve this creamy Italian chicken over cooked pasta or rice and add some fresh parsley on top.
Ingredient Notes
This 4 ingredient crockpot chicken with cream cheese is such an easy dinner recipe that will want to always keep it in your dinner rotation!
- Cream of chicken soup: The cream of chicken soup helps to give this recipe it’s creamy consistency. I like to use a can from the store for convenience, but you can always make your own homemade cream of chicken soup recipe.
- Cream cheese: You’ll just need 1 block of cream cheese. I like to cube mine up before adding it to the crockpot. This helps it melt evenly and not get lumpy.
- Italian dressing mix: Make sure to get the dry Italian salad dressing mix packet! I like to use Good Seasons Italian dressing mix for the best flavor.
- Chicken breasts: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts work best for this recipe. I used 4 chicken breasts, which is about 1 1/2 pounds.
How to Make Creamy Crockpot Italian Chicken
Making creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot is as easy as ever! Just dump the ingredients in and let the slow cooker do the rest of the work.
- Place ingredients in crock pot. Place meat in crockpot and sprinkle Italian seasoning on top. Then pour in the cream of chicken soup and add cream cheese cubes.
- Cook on low. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- Shred & season to taste. Shred meat with two forks and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir back into the sauce. If needed, add 1/4- 1/2 cup of broth or milk to thin it out.
- Serve and enjoy! Serve the tender chicken over cooked noodles or rice.
Tips and Variations
- Use slow cooker liners for easy clean up in this slow cooker creamy Italian chicken recipe.
- You will know the chicken is done when an internal thermometer reads 165°F.
- Feel free to add in veggies during the last hour of cooking. Broccoli, peas or mushrooms would taste great.
- If the mixture is too thick, add 1/4-1/2 cup of chicken broth or milk to thin it out.
Serving Suggestions
This creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot tastes great served over rice or cooked pasta (such as egg noodles). You can also serve it over mashed potatoes for the ultimate comfort food!
Other sides I like to serve include roasted broccoli, roasted asparagus, garlic bread or breadsticks.
Storage
- Store: Store leftovers of creamy Italian chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freeze: You can also freeze leftovers. Cool completely then add to a freeze safe bag and keep frozen for up 4 months. Thaw in the refrigerator then reheat.

I am hoping to make this tonight, do you think it will still be good without the cream cheese?
I haven’t tested that out, I’m afraid the sauce won’t be as creamy (and delicious) but it should work.
Absolutely an amazing wholesome easy family favorite comfort food dish!!!! 100+ stars
I’m so glad your family loved it! Thanks for your review Codi :)

Thanks for the feedback, Helen. Glad this has become a “regular”!
This tasted amazing! I had my husband make it and he unfortunately used two LARGE cans of cream of chicken, but it still turned out delicious. It’s thankfully a very forgiving recipe and one for the books.
So glad to hear it turned out anyways! Thanks for your comment and review, Paige :)

I was just wondering if I should thaw chicken first?
You can, or if using frozen chicken, just use the greater of the cooking times. Enjoy!
Delicious, creamy & so easy to make. Since it is just the 2 of us now, we vacuum seal & freeze extras. Reheat by boiling in the bag & good as fresh.
Great idea! Happy to hear you love the recipe, Cherie :)
I saw another recipe that calls for two cans of 10 oz cream of chicken soup. It looks like one would be enough though – that’s what you use and it’s always enough? I am planning to make this today. Thank you! :)
Yes, we only use 1 can and it’s always enough :) Hope you enjoy!
Super easy and delicious!
SO great! I made for 1st time today and it turned out perfectly! I stopped at farm stand and grabbed some green beans- will steam those and some rice on the side!
