This creamy crockpot chicken is made in the slow cooker with just 4 simple ingredients. This meal has been a family favorite for years and is perfect for busy weeknights.
Crockpot Italian Chicken
This creamy crockpot Italian chicken is one of my all-time favorite meals! My aunt gave this recipe to me when I was first married and we have been making it ever since. It is SO delicious and super easy to make.
This is one of those super easy “forget and go” 5-ingredient crockpot meals! You add everything to the slow cooker and that’s it! Then dinner is ready a few hours later. We love to serve this creamy Italian chicken over cooked pasta or rice and add some fresh parsley on top.
Ingredient Notes
This 4 ingredient crockpot chicken with cream cheese is such an easy dinner recipe that will want to always keep it in your dinner rotation!
- Cream of chicken soup: The cream of chicken soup helps to give this recipe it’s creamy consistency. I like to use a can from the store for convenience, but you can always make your own homemade cream of chicken soup recipe.
- Cream cheese: You’ll just need 1 block of cream cheese. I like to cube mine up before adding it to the crockpot. This helps it melt evenly and not get lumpy.
- Italian dressing mix: Make sure to get the dry Italian salad dressing mix packet! I like to use Good Seasons Italian dressing mix for the best flavor.
- Chicken breasts: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts work best for this recipe. I used 4 chicken breasts, which is about 1 1/2 pounds.
How to Make Creamy Crockpot Italian Chicken
Making creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot is as easy as ever! Just dump the ingredients in and let the slow cooker do the rest of the work.
- Place ingredients in crock pot. Place meat in crockpot and sprinkle Italian seasoning on top. Then pour in the cream of chicken soup and add cream cheese cubes.
- Cook on low. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- Shred & season to taste. Shred meat with two forks and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir back into the sauce. If needed, add 1/4- 1/2 cup of broth or milk to thin it out.
- Serve and enjoy! Serve the tender chicken over cooked noodles or rice.
Tips and Variations
- Use slow cooker liners for easy clean up in this slow cooker creamy Italian chicken recipe.
- You will know the chicken is done when an internal thermometer reads 165°F.
- Feel free to add in veggies during the last hour of cooking. Broccoli, peas or mushrooms would taste great.
- If the mixture is too thick, add 1/4-1/2 cup of chicken broth or milk to thin it out.
Serving Suggestions
This creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot tastes great served over rice or cooked pasta (such as egg noodles). You can also serve it over mashed potatoes for the ultimate comfort food!
Other sides I like to serve include roasted broccoli, roasted asparagus, garlic bread or breadsticks.
Storage
- Store: Store leftovers of creamy Italian chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freeze: You can also freeze leftovers. Cool completely then add to a freeze safe bag and keep frozen for up 4 months. Thaw in the refrigerator then reheat.

This recipe was so simple and very delicious! This will be on our rotation – especially on those over-scheduled days.
Glad you enjoyed the recipe, Meghan! :)
Have you ever made this in the instapot?
I haven’t, but let me know if you give it a shot!
I just made this over the weekend! Do you know if I can freeze this after making it?
You can, but the chicken doesn’t freeze as well with the cream cheese.
I freeze this regularly and I love it!!! I just put it in gallon or quart size zip lock bags and lay it flat.
Serve over spaghetti squash, or noodles, or rice! Very versatile!
I have made this dish several times exactly as it is written and it is wonderful every time. Everyone in my family likes it. Easy and quick!
So happy to hear that! Thanks for your comment and review, Catherine :)
Can I make this with frozen chicken?
Yes, that is what I usually do!! Just use the greater of the cooking times.
For the veggies to put in in the last hour- can I do frozen peas? Or should they be fresh?
Frozen peas will work just fine!
Loved this recipe! Obviously easy, delicious, and for the few cooler days last week, it was the perfect meal. Stored the creamy chicken and pasta in separate containers, reheating the chicken slowly in the microwave and throwing the pasta in boiling water for a few minutes. Turned out equally as good :) Thanks, Jamielyn!
This recipe is a family favorite. My 6 year old absolutely loves it and requests it often. It reheats so well and is incredibly easy to put together. I love the way it smells while it’s in the slow cooker. Thank you!
Yay I’m so happy to hear this, Katie! Thanks so much for your comment and review :)
What is the serving size for this recipe?
Hi Greg, this recipe makes 6 servings :)
Will this meal travel easy? Does it reheat well? Thinking about making this for a couple just home from hospital with new baby.
That is so sweet of you! It will travel best with the sauce and noodles in separate containers.
Super easy to make and it tasted great!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Is there any substitute for the cream cheese
Hi Mary! You could leave it out if you prefer, but it won’t be as creamy!
I would like to make this, but only have cream of mushroom. Will that make much of a difference?
The flavor will change just a bit, but it should work the same! :)
This is honestly the easiest, most delicious thing I’ve ever made. 4 ingredients and everyone loves it! I put it over white rice with a veggie on the side, and it is absolutely delicious. Peak comfort food.
I’m so glad to hear everyone loved it! Thank you for leaving a comment and review Jessica!
I added some sundried tomatoes, and asparagus and spinach to it, and lots of parm cheese. Very good! Thanks for the recipe
Sounds delicious! I hope you enjoyed it!
It has taken me for-ever to find a chicken crockpot recipe that punched flavor. And with only 4 ingredients. This stuff is awesome! I didn’t have any italian dressing packets so I made my own using the following with stuff I had on hand. Thank you!!

My husband and kids loved this meal. It freezes great too. I put all ingredients in a freezer bag and gave to my SIL for after she had her baby. She loved it as well!! It doesn’t get easier than this.
