This creamy crockpot chicken is made in the slow cooker with just 4 simple ingredients. This meal has been a family favorite for years and is perfect for busy weeknights.
Crockpot Italian Chicken
This creamy crockpot Italian chicken is one of my all-time favorite meals! My aunt gave this recipe to me when I was first married and we have been making it ever since. It is SO delicious and super easy to make.
This is one of those super easy “forget and go” 5-ingredient crockpot meals! You add everything to the slow cooker and that’s it! Then dinner is ready a few hours later. We love to serve this creamy Italian chicken over cooked pasta or rice and add some fresh parsley on top.
Ingredient Notes
This 4 ingredient crockpot chicken with cream cheese is such an easy dinner recipe that will want to always keep it in your dinner rotation!
- Cream of chicken soup: The cream of chicken soup helps to give this recipe it’s creamy consistency. I like to use a can from the store for convenience, but you can always make your own homemade cream of chicken soup recipe.
- Cream cheese: You’ll just need 1 block of cream cheese. I like to cube mine up before adding it to the crockpot. This helps it melt evenly and not get lumpy.
- Italian dressing mix: Make sure to get the dry Italian salad dressing mix packet! I like to use Good Seasons Italian dressing mix for the best flavor.
- Chicken breasts: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts work best for this recipe. I used 4 chicken breasts, which is about 1 1/2 pounds.
How to Make Creamy Crockpot Italian Chicken
Making creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot is as easy as ever! Just dump the ingredients in and let the slow cooker do the rest of the work.
- Place ingredients in crock pot. Place meat in crockpot and sprinkle Italian seasoning on top. Then pour in the cream of chicken soup and add cream cheese cubes.
- Cook on low. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- Shred & season to taste. Shred meat with two forks and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir back into the sauce. If needed, add 1/4- 1/2 cup of broth or milk to thin it out.
- Serve and enjoy! Serve the tender chicken over cooked noodles or rice.
Tips and Variations
- Use slow cooker liners for easy clean up in this slow cooker creamy Italian chicken recipe.
- You will know the chicken is done when an internal thermometer reads 165°F.
- Feel free to add in veggies during the last hour of cooking. Broccoli, peas or mushrooms would taste great.
- If the mixture is too thick, add 1/4-1/2 cup of chicken broth or milk to thin it out.
Serving Suggestions
This creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot tastes great served over rice or cooked pasta (such as egg noodles). You can also serve it over mashed potatoes for the ultimate comfort food!
Other sides I like to serve include roasted broccoli, roasted asparagus, garlic bread or breadsticks.
Storage
- Store: Store leftovers of creamy Italian chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freeze: You can also freeze leftovers. Cool completely then add to a freeze safe bag and keep frozen for up 4 months. Thaw in the refrigerator then reheat.

I’m going to try this recipe tomorrow, but the pic looks like double soup and cream cheese. Just verifying it’s only one can and block? Thanks!
Yes just 1 of each! Enjoy :)
Can I use a sparing amount of premade liquid italian dressing? I’m out of the packets.
Unfortunately I don’t think it will turn out the same!
I have made this several times using liquid dressing. Turns out amazing. I actually prefer it this way and so does my family.
Thanks for your comment! I’m glad to know it worked with the liquid dressing!
Great recipe! I added in some extra seasonings like paprika on my chicken and pepper flakes & parmesan but it tasted great!
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it! :)
I made this for my mom for Mother’s Day, yesterday and it was PERFECT. I used the exact recipe. Let me just say “thank you” because I’m not much of a cook and cooking gives me bad anxiety but this recipe saved the day! Mom and i LOVED it and i will be making it again! PERFECTION! 💐
I’m so happy you loved it and had a good experience! Thanks for leaving a comment and review Kristin! :)
Can you use cream of mushroom soup in this recipe? Would it change the flavor?
It will change the flavor a bit, but it should work the same!
I just love a great crockpot recipe that is easy to set and forget. This is really good. My whole family loved it.

I think that should be fine! :)
Has anyone tried with the zesty Italian dressing mix?? Wondering how that would be :)
Tracy, I made this delicious recipe last night with Good Seasons Zesty Italian and it was soooo good!!
LOVE!!
Yes, that is what I usually do!! Just use the greater of the cooking times.
I made this yesterday and wish I would have doubled the batch so there was leftovers for lunch. Served it over egg noodles. Even my picky 14 year old liked it and asked for it to be kept in our rotation. SO SIMPLE! Thank you!
I’m so glad it was a hit! Thanks for your comment and review Stephanie!
Would I double all the ingredients to make more?
That should work! :)
I love this recipe. Would like to double it—should I change the time in the slow cooker?
I would just do the greater of the cooking times and stir halfway through. :)
Easy and delicious! Thank you so much for sharing. In the slow cooker for the second time right now which reminded me to rate it. By far the easiest slow cooker chicken recipe I’ve ever tried. I love throwing in frozen peas and carrots and serving it over noodles. Tastes just like chicken pot pie.
Thanks for your comment! The addition of peas and carrots sounds delicious. I’ll have to give that a try next time!
This is flat out one of the best recipes I have tried! My 4 quart crock pot cooks faster so it was done in 4 and a half hours on slow.
Flavors were amazing. ..so delicious.
Being an 85 year old single guy who gets nervous when a recipe presents itself with a long ingredient list, I especially appreciated only 4 of ’em for this superb creation!
Thank you.
