This creamy crockpot chicken is made in the slow cooker with just 4 simple ingredients. This meal has been a family favorite for years and is perfect for busy weeknights.
Crockpot Italian Chicken
This creamy crockpot Italian chicken is one of my all-time favorite meals! My aunt gave this recipe to me when I was first married and we have been making it ever since. It is SO delicious and super easy to make.
This is one of those super easy “forget and go” 5-ingredient crockpot meals! You add everything to the slow cooker and that’s it! Then dinner is ready a few hours later. We love to serve this creamy Italian chicken over cooked pasta or rice and add some fresh parsley on top.
Ingredient Notes
This 4 ingredient crockpot chicken with cream cheese is such an easy dinner recipe that will want to always keep it in your dinner rotation!
- Cream of chicken soup: The cream of chicken soup helps to give this recipe it’s creamy consistency. I like to use a can from the store for convenience, but you can always make your own homemade cream of chicken soup recipe.
- Cream cheese: You’ll just need 1 block of cream cheese. I like to cube mine up before adding it to the crockpot. This helps it melt evenly and not get lumpy.
- Italian dressing mix: Make sure to get the dry Italian salad dressing mix packet! I like to use Good Seasons Italian dressing mix for the best flavor.
- Chicken breasts: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts work best for this recipe. I used 4 chicken breasts, which is about 1 1/2 pounds.
How to Make Creamy Crockpot Italian Chicken
Making creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot is as easy as ever! Just dump the ingredients in and let the slow cooker do the rest of the work.
- Place ingredients in crock pot. Place meat in crockpot and sprinkle Italian seasoning on top. Then pour in the cream of chicken soup and add cream cheese cubes.
- Cook on low. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- Shred & season to taste. Shred meat with two forks and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir back into the sauce. If needed, add 1/4- 1/2 cup of broth or milk to thin it out.
- Serve and enjoy! Serve the tender chicken over cooked noodles or rice.
Tips and Variations
- Use slow cooker liners for easy clean up in this slow cooker creamy Italian chicken recipe.
- You will know the chicken is done when an internal thermometer reads 165°F.
- Feel free to add in veggies during the last hour of cooking. Broccoli, peas or mushrooms would taste great.
- If the mixture is too thick, add 1/4-1/2 cup of chicken broth or milk to thin it out.
Serving Suggestions
This creamy Italian chicken in the crockpot tastes great served over rice or cooked pasta (such as egg noodles). You can also serve it over mashed potatoes for the ultimate comfort food!
Other sides I like to serve include roasted broccoli, roasted asparagus, garlic bread or breadsticks.
Storage
- Store: Store leftovers of creamy Italian chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freeze: You can also freeze leftovers. Cool completely then add to a freeze safe bag and keep frozen for up 4 months. Thaw in the refrigerator then reheat.

This was sooooo easy to make and the whole family LOVED it!
I’m so glad it was a hit!
Love this easy dinner!
Such a great recipe! I love the creaminess the cream cheese adds to the chicken!
My family LOVES this recipe! It’s the perfect Sunday night dish! We have served it over pasta and rice!
Can you just use raw chicken and if so do you still add in the water? Thanks so much.
Yes! You can use this with raw chicken and yes, you’ll still want to add the water. Thanks, Tammy! :)
It says low for 5-6 hours, but I won’t be home to eat until 8 hours. If using frozen chicken, would 8 hours on low be ok?
I used frozen and it only needed 5-6 hours. I’d had maybe a quarter cup more fluid (water or chicken stock) and let it go for eight!
How many does this feed?
Hi Rachel! This should feed 5-6 people! :)
This sounds so good and easy! If you use frozen chicken, do you still add the water? If so, is it runny when it’s finished cooking? Thanks!
Hi Cyndey! Yes I do still add water. The consistency is about the same both ways. :)
I am so sorry about my autocorrect, let’s try this again.
First, what ounce can of soup do you use?
Second, are your frozen chicken breasts pre cooked or raw? I feel as if using raw frozen chicken is unsafe, even with 8 hours of cooktime.
Third, how many ounces are in a packet of seasoning?
Hi Liz! The cream of chicken soup is the 10.75 oz can. I use raw frozen chicken breasts but you can definitely use fresh chicken breasts instead, just decrease the cooking time. The packet of seasoning is a .7 oz. Hope that helps! :)
WOW! I just made this for my family tonight and everyone – even my super picky son – loved it and wants me to make it OFTEN! I was able to find organic versions of every ingredient so I didn’t feel too badly about the richness of the dish. Plus, I don’t think you can find a simpler meal to make!!! This will be a MUST MAKE for our snow days this year (we are praying we have lots of them too!). Thanks for the great recipe!
This recipe is perfect for snow days! I’m so glad your family loved this recipe, I love how easy and delicious it is. Thanks for your comment Chrissy! :)
Great recipe!
Oh yeah, what sides do you use?
I like to serve this with green beans or broccoli! :)
I love the simplicity of this slow cooked creamy chicken. For future reference do you put the chicken breast in the crock pot frozen? What kind of chicken do you use?
Yes, I always put mine in frozen. I usually get fresh chicken from Costco and freeze it, but any chicken will work. :)
Loved this creamy chicken over rice!
i make this all the time, love it!!! i normally add cut up potatoes, onions, peppers and carrots and just eat it as is not over anything. tonight i didnt have onions, or peppers so i tossed in some carrots and thought about doing it over noodles.
love your site!
Oh yum that’s a great idea! I need to try that next time. Thanks for sharing! :)
I made this recipe last night, and it was delish!! Although I went with some pork loin chops instead of chicken breast. I had it with rice and broccoli and it will definitely be a go-to for many dinners to come!! Thank you!
SO tasty!! Loved this creamy crockpot chicken!
