Hawaiian Roll Pizza Sliders

This pepperoni pizza sliders recipe combines Hawaiian rolls with the classic Italian flavors of pepperoni pizza. They’re perfect for gatherings, game nights, or a fun twist on pizza night.

Slider recipes are always a crowd favorite and my ham and cheese sliders have been a favorite for years so I knew that these pizza inspired sliders would be a hit, too.

They are gooey and cheesy plus quick and easy to make for weeknight dinners or to serve as a game day appetizer.

Ingredient Notes

Find the full printable recipe with specific measurements below.

  • Hawaiian rolls: These sweet rolls are the perfect base for our pizza sliders. I often make homemade Hawaiian rolls but store bought is easiest.
  • Pizza sauce: Use your favorite store-bought marinara or homemade pizza sauce.
  • Pepperoni: A mix of traditional and thinly sliced deli pepperonis works wonders.
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese: Adjust the amount to your cheese preference.
  • Topping: A mix of melted butter, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, grated parmesan cheese, and fresh parsley for that extra flavor punch.

Best Bread Buns to Use for Pizza Sliders

I love to use the Hawaiian sweet rolls that come in a 12-count package. You can use other types of dinner rolls or slider buns and the store carries many brands these days that work like Sara Lee or Aunt Millie’s. Whatever you choose, it’s best to use a pull-apart roll so that the pepperoni sliders stay together while baking.

How to Make Pizza Sliders

  • Prepare the base: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Use a serrated knife for a clean cut through the Hawaiian rolls then place the bottom halves of the Hawaiian rolls in a buttered 9×13 baking dish.
  • Add toppings: Spread pizza sauce over the rolls, layer with pepperoni slices, and sprinkle generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Top and season: Place the top halves of the rolls on. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, and parmesan cheese, and then pour butter sauce mixture over the rolls.
  • Bake and serve: Cover the dish with foil and bake until the tops are golden brown. Serve the pepperoni pizza sliders hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Topping Ideas

We love these pizza sliders with lots of cheese and pepperoni, but here are some other pizza toppings to try:

  • Meat variations: Beyond pepperoni, sometimes I also like to add Italian sausage. You can also swap in some ham or chicken too!
  • Veggies: Add thinly sliced peppers or onions for a veggie twist. If one of your favorite pizza toppings happens to be pineapple, by all means, add some in there.
  • Cheese options: Experiment with different cheeses like cheddar or provolone for a new flavor.

Recipe Tips

  • To avoid soggy bottoms: Don’t overdo it with the pizza sauce, and when slicing the rolls, aim for a thicker bottom than top. Additionally, baking the sliders uncovered for the last few minutes helps crisp up the bottom.
  • Don’t take apart the rolls when assembling: Just slice horizontally through the rolls so you have 12 bottom rolls and 12 top rolls.
  • Serving: Pair these pepperoni and cheese sliders with an Olive Garden salad or a Caesar salad at dinner or for an appetizer serve with potato wedges.
  • Store: Store leftover pepperoni pull-apart rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave for a quick snack.

  • 1-2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese , more as desired

Topping

  • ¼ cup butter , melted
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2-3 Tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350° F. Butter a 9×13 dish and then place the bottom half of the rolls into the pan.
  • Spread 1 cup pizza sauce over the rolls. Place the pepperonis on top. Sprinkle 1-2 cups mozzarella on top.
  • Make garlic butter topping. Meanwhile, stir together 1/4 cup butter, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt and 2-3 Tablespoons Parmesan cheese in a small bowl. Then place top of the rolls on. Pour butter mixture over the top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 12 minutes. Uncover and bake and additional 5 to 7 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is melted. Add some freshly grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley on top if desired.

Notes

Pepperoni: I like to use a mix of traditional pepperoni and thinly sliced deli pepperonis.
Toppings: You could also add thinly sliced pepper, onions or cooked sausage as well.
