Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Instead of ordering Chinese food out when I get a craving, I’ve learned to make a few favorites at home. These PF Chang’s lettuce wraps were an instant winner, as well as my General Tso’s chicken, sweet and sour chicken and honey sesame chicken.
Whenever we go to PF Chang’s, I always order the chicken lettuce wraps and edamame for an appetizer. This is an easy take out copycat recipe you can make at home in less than 20 minutes. It comes together super quick in just one pan!
PF Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps Ingredients
With a few simple ingredients, it’s easy to make these at home, plus since you control the ingredients they are a bit healthier as well!
- Oil: You will need both olive oil (or canola oil) and sesame oil for sauteing and flavor.
- Onion and garlic: Adds savory taste.
- Ground chicken: I prefer lean ground chicken but diced cooked chicken would work well, too.
- Hoisin sauce: Adds distinct flavor and taste, don’t skimp on this! It can easily be found in the Asian section of grocery stores.
- Soy sauce: I like to use low-sodium soy sauce to control the sodium amount.
- Rice vinegar and ginger: Fresh ginger adds incredible taste and rice vinegar a small tangy flavor.
- Lettuce leaves: For serving the wraps.
Substitutions and Variations
- Protein: You could use ground turkey or ground pork if preferred. For strips of beef I prefer to make my beef bulgogi recipe.
- Water chestnuts: Chopped water chestnuts or carrots can be added for a crunch.
- Mushrooms: Although not authentic to the dish, shiitake mushrooms are a wonderful addition to the meat mixture.
- Fried rice noodles: These would add a crunchy texture to the copycat PF Chang’s chicken lettuce wraps!
- Heat: You can add a dash of sriracha or chili garlic sauce if you like heat.
How to Make Copycat PF Chang’s Lettuce Wraps

- Serve. Spoon the chicken mixture into lettuce cups.
- Garnish. Add sliced green onions on top if desired. Enjoy!
FAQs
I love to use butter lettuce to wrap these PF Chang’s ground chicken lettuce wraps but you can also use bib lettuce, romaine or iceberg as well.
While I find ground chicken easier, you can use finely diced cooked chicken thighs or chicken breasts if preferred. Ground turkey, ground beef or ground pork would also work.
Since you control the ingredients, yes they are healthy, plus low carb, dairy free and gluten-free if using a gluten-free soy sauce or tamari. That being said, calorie count will change depending on garnishes or additional ingredients you may add.
The filling for these wraps can be made ahead up to 2-3 days and assembled right before serving. I recommended to store the filling the lettuce separately for storage. Stored in the refrigerator the filling will stay good for up to 5 days.
Leftover filling can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
What to Serve with Lettuce Wraps
While these Asian lettuce wraps could be a meal themselves, I love to serve them with a few sides for a complete meal.
I also like make a little extra sauce and serve it in a small bowl on the side for dipping the chicken lettuce wraps.

Amazing! I made this last night and my whole family loved it. Some alterations I made…probably only need half the sauce and I added chopped up carrot, zucchini, and red bell pepper to add texture and color. A little white or brown rice on the side to fill up my boys. Chili oil or sriracha on top to spice it up. It’s a keeper!

Tasted great and was so easy!
Quick and easy and so delish! The only thing I’m doing different next time is add some diced water chestnuts for some crunch.
Simple and yummy! This one is added to my regular rotation of recipes. It was just a bit sweet for my taste, so next time I’ll cut the hoisin sauce to 1/8 cup. I also added water chestnuts and topped with more sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
The Best… I use chicken breast instead of ground chicken. Much better…
Can I use ground turkey?
