Only 5 ingredients are needed for this crockpot candy. Two kinds of chocolate, almond bark, peanut butter chips and peanuts are a slow cooker treat that is a holiday favorite!
Why You’ll Crockpot Peanut Clusters
- Fun and easy: This crockpot candy recipe is the easiest candy recipe! Kids can help make it from dumping the ingredients into the slow cooker to dropping into clusters.
- Irresistible: Made-from-scratch peanut clusters are chocolaty, indulgent and one of my favorite holiday treats to gift along with toffee and Christmas crack.
Ingredient Notes
Find the full printable recipe below.
- Peanuts: I used salted peanuts, but you can use unsalted peanuts or a combination of the two. If you have a nut allergy, you can swap for almonds or cashews.
- Almond bark: Vanilla-flavored almond bark might seem counterintuitive in a chocolate candy recipe, but the candy coating helps the crockpot candy set properly.
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips: Opt for higher quality semisweet chocolate chips like Ghirardelli chocolate chips or Guittard. Dark chocolate chips can be used.
- German chocolate bar: This chocolate will come in a bar. If you can’t find it, you can use additional semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Peanut butter chips: I love a small amount of peanut butter chips for additional flavor in the crockpot peanut cluster recipe, but you can omit these if you need to.
How to Make Crockpot Candy
Combine almond bark, chocolate chips, German chocolate, peanut butter chips and 1/2 of the peanuts in a slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low for 1 hour. Remove lid, add the rest of the peanuts and stir until smooth. Turn off the slow cooker and allow chocolate to cool for 5-10 minutes.
Immediately use a spoon or cookie scoop to place rounded spoonful’s of the crockpot candy mixture onto a lined cookie sheet. Top with extra chopped peanuts or festive sprinkles for the holiday season. Refrigerate 20 minutes, or until set.
Recipe Tips and Variations
- Allergy-friendly: If peanuts are a concern, you can use a different nut like cashews, almonds, pecans or walnuts. You can even omit them and stir in pretzel pieces, mini marshmallows, toffee bits, pumpkin seeds or graham crackers at the end.
- Prevent chocolate seizing: While melting chocolate in the slow cooker certainly makes things easier, to prevent condensation from the crockpot lid dropping onto the chocolate, you can place a clean tea towel over the top before placing the lid on, however I never have had this issue.
- Candy liners: If I plan to give crock pot candy as Christmas treat gifts or place on holiday cookie trays, I place spoonfuls into cupcake liners to harden into clusters.
- Add sprinkles immediately: I scoop about 6-8 crockpot chocolate candies then add sprinkles before the chocolate has a chance to harden.
- Quicken the hardening process: Pop the tray with chocolate peanut clusters into the fridge for an hour. Crockpot candy set at room temperature it will just take longer.
- Stovetop: You can make crockpot Christmas candy on the stovetop. Add ingredients to a large pot and then cook and stir for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat, rest 5 minutes then scoop clusters onto a parchment lined or wax paper line baking sheet.
