Why I Love This Recipe

Ingredient Notes

Find the full printable recipe with specific measurements below.

  • Vanilla ice cream: The amount of ice cream used is based on how thick you like your Oreo shake.
  • Milk: The higher the fat content, the creamier the consistency. Whole milk or 2% is what I normally use, but use whatever milk you like.
  • Oreo cookies: You’ll need some for the shake and some for garnish.
  • Chocolate chips: These are optional. We use semi-sweet chocolate chips. They give the shake a little extra chocolaty flavor and texture from the chips.
  • Whipped topping: For the top and makes it feel ice cream shop worthy!

How to Make an Oreo Milkshake

Add the ice cream, milk, and Oreo cookies into a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Add in chocolate chips and pulse a few times.

Shake Variations

  • French vanilla ice cream is a tasty choice. Any vanilla ice cream works.
  • You could also swap the vanilla ice cream for chocolate ice cream.
  • Vegan vanilla ice cream and almond milk are great non-dairy alternatives.
  • Drizzle chocolate syrup over the whipped cream.
  • The best milkshake always has a maraschino cherry on top.

Recipe Tips

  • If you prefer a thick Oreo milkshake recipe, use more ice cream. If it’s too thick, add a splash more milk.
  • Take your presentation up a notch and rim your glass with Oreos.
    • Remove the creamy Oreo center and crush cookies into crumbs, either in a food processor or a Ziploc bag with a rolling pin.
    • Dip the glass rim into a simple syrup or honey, or melt the creamy center from teh cookie and use that for dipping.
    • Add the crumbs to a shallow dish and flip the glass over into the crumbs. Set it aside until your milkshake is ready to pour.
  • Store your milkshake glasses in the freezer for a cool frosty presentation.
