Easy 30-Minute Cheeseburger Sliders

I love this mini appetizer that is a spin on my baked hamburgers. Sliders are great way to serve a crowd at game day parties, backyard BBQs, birthday parties, or whenever you don’t feel like standing over a grill for a traditional hamburger recipe.

These baked sliders easily pull apart into individual hamburger sliders which makes for easy entertaining. Ham and cheese sliders, pepperoni pizza sliders and buffalo chicken sliders are other favorites we love on game day!

Cheeseburger Slider Recipe Ingredients

  • Hawaiian dinner rolls: I love to use my homemade Hawaiian rolls but store bought works great! You can also use dinner rolls or hamburger buns instead.
  • Mayonnaise: Adds a slight tang, use your favorite brand. You could also use burger sauce.
  • Ground beef: Juicy lean ground beef makes the best burgers. Season with Italian seasoning or hamburger seasoning if you would like.
  • BBQ sauce: Adds the right amount of sweet taste.
  • Cheddar cheese: Or your favorite cheese slices, American cheese is a popular pick.
  • Garlic butter sauce: Unsalted butter, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt and sesame seeds.

How to Make Cheeseburger Sliders

In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, BBQ sauce, salt, and pepper then form into 12 small patties. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook your burgers about 2 minutes per side, or until the center is no longer pink.

In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, and sesame seeds.

Slather mayonnaise over the top half of the rolls. In the baking dish, place individual patties onto each roll. Add the slices of cheese and cover with top roll section, evenly matching up the rolls. Then pour sauce on top.

Cover the easy cheeseburger sliders recipe with foil and bake at 350 degrees F 10 to 15 minutes then uncover and cook an additional 2 minutes to brown the top of the rolls. Serve hot with your favorite toppings!

Hamburger Sliders Tips and Variations

  • Keep the Hawaiian rolls joined for convenience. It’s a lot easier to treat it as a sheet of bread rather than individual buns.
  • Use a serrated knife to slice through the rolls to get an even layer of the bun on each half.
  • Do not overwork the ground beef mixture. Mix just enough to keep the moisture intact so that it doesn’t turn out dry.
  • Let the melted butter mixture soak into the bread for 10 minutes before baking. This will give it a chance to get into the bread rather than just sitting on top.
  • If you prefer grilling, wrap them in foil and place them on the grill for 5 minutes until the cheese has melted for the best cheeseburger recipe.
  • Looking for no bun? Try my cheeseburger meatballs or serve homemade smash burgers over lettuce.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Servings: 12

Ingredients

Sauce

  • 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter , melted
  • 1 Tablespoon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Hamburgers

  • 12 Hawaiian dinner rolls
  • 2 Tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 Tablespoons BBQ sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese , cut in half

For serving: Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles

Instructions

Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the butter, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, and sesame seeds. Set aside.

Hamburgers

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and butter a 9×13" baking dish. Slice Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally using a large bread knife. Make sure to keep the rolls connected to each other while cutting. Once sliced, remove the top section and place on a cutting board. Spread mayonnaise over the inside. Add the bottom section of the rolls to your baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the beef, BBQ sauce, salt, and pepper. Divide and press beef mixture into 12 small patties. In a skillet over medium heat, cook about 2 minutes per side, or until the center is no longer pink.
  • In the baking dish, place a patty onto each roll. Add the slices of cheese and cover with top roll section, evenly matching up the rolls.
  • Pour sauce evenly over the rolls. Let sit about 10 minutes for sauce to soak in.
  • Cover sliders with foil and bake 10 to 15 minutes. Uncover and cook an additional 2 minutes to brown the top of the rolls.
  • Add desired toppings, by removing the top rolls. Place a toothpick in the middle to hold together, if desired. Best served while hot.

Notes

Variation:
  • Add desired toppings such as cooked bacon, pickles, and tomatoes before baking.
  • Use a variation of cheeses such as Swiss or American.
  • Instead of mayo, spread on a hamburger sauce.
  • Another fun way to make these is to wrap with foil and place on the grill until melted, about 5 minutes.

When ready to serve, remove from the refrigerator 15 minutes before baking and then proceed with directions. If baking from cold, you may need to add a few minutes of time the cooking time.

How do you keep sliders from getting soggy?

The cheese helps create a barrier to prevent sogginess as well as uncovering the cheeseburger sliders the last few minutes helps them bake up golden!

How to store leftovers?

While these are best fresh, you can store them refrigerated for 2-3 days. Warm up by wrapping in foil and reheating in the oven until warm, or wrap an individual slider in a paper towel and reheat in the microwave.

To freeze, wrap each burger slider individually so it’s easier to just pull out of the freezer and reheat. Store in a freezer safe bag to prevent them from drying out.
