Recipe Ingredients
Find the full printable recipe with specific measurements below.
- Mustard: I like to use a blend of Dijon and yellow mustard to get a little bit of the tang and heat of both.
- Honey: The sweetness works so well with the kick of mustard.
- Mayonnaise: This add creaminess and helps thicken the sauce.
- Vinegar: It may seem counterproductive, but the acid actually helps mellow the tand of the mustard.
- Optional: For a spicy kick, add some cayenne pepper. A milder zesty addition is paprika.
How to Make Honey Mustard Sauce
- Stir. Simply mix together mustard, honey, mayo, vinegar, salt, and pepper in a bowl until creamy.
- Chill. Cover and place in the fridge until ready to serve.

Recipe FAQs
You can try apple cider vinegar, lemon juice or white wine vinegar. This recipe is pretty adaptable, so have fun and mix things up a bit to see what you like best.
No reason why not. It will change the flavor, so you will need to adjust it to your taste, but it should still work.
I love the combination of Dijon mustard and yellow mustard. You can use all Dijon mustard if you would like, but I would not use all yellow mustard as you will not get the desired tang.
It can be stored up to 5 days in the fridge in a sealed container. Stir before each use.
Looks yummy will try soon. Easy & fast to prepare. Ingredients are all healthy
I love all kinds of Mustard.
This is a given that I will like it.

I have made this for years. It’s also good on sandwiches, and hamburgers
So delicious on sandwiches!
I did not make this recipe yet but can you freeze it??
Yes you can freeze it in a zip top bag up to 3 months.
This sounds so good. I need to find low sodium mayo and mustard; otherwise I’m ready. And I plan on using it as a salad dressing as well as a dip.
It would be delicious as both! Hope you enjoy, Margaret :)

What is the best kind of mustard to use for this? Is plain old yellow mustard best or can different deli or brown mustards be used?
I typically use yellow mustard
Delish! I am not sure who stated in their post that Mayo was not needed – use only honey and mustard. That person was absolutely wrong. Mayo gives this a nice balance and consistency. This won’t disappoint!
I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed it, Genie! :)
I love that I can make this at home and it tastes just as delicious. Of course our favorite is to have this on a chicken sandwich!
I was excited to try this since honey mustard is one of my favorite condiments! No more store bought for me!
So. What advise can you give on using white or cider vinegar or lemon juice? Which is the best ?
White vinegar is my favorite to use in this recipe, but if I don’t have any on hand, I’ll swap it out for fresh lemon juice.
