Disney Copycat Caramel Apples

One of the best things about visiting Disney are the delicious treats including these Disney caramel apples! I love going to the bakery and seeing which new Disney character caramel apple flavors and designs they have each season.

Every time I visit Disneyland, I have to pick up a caramel apple but believe it or not, they’re actually pretty easy to make at home. I’ve included 2 versions: Mickey Mouse candy apples and Disney apple pie caramel apples. Both are simple and so cute!

How to Make Apple Pie Caramel Apples

This “apple pie apple” is my favorite Disneyland version! It’s coated with caramel, white chocolate, graham cracker crumbs and a cinnamon sugar mixture. Watch a video of Disney parks making an Apple Pie Candy Apple.

  • Dip your apple in caramel and allow to set. Once set, trim any excess caramel on the bottom with scissors.
  • Cut about 1/8 of the marshmallow off the bottom. Then stick 2 of them on top of the apple to create the ears. If you don’t want to make the Disney version, leave these off.
  • Dip the entire apple in white chocolate or almond bark. Or if you’re making without Mickey ears, just dip until you reach the caramel. Let the excess chocolate drizzle off.
  • Place the caramel apple in a bowl full of graham cracker crumbs. Allow to set in the bowl a minute and then press the graham crackers onto the sides. Sprinkle the top half with cinnamon sugar then place on parchment paper to set.

Mickey Mouse Candy Apples

My kid’s favorite Disney caramel apples are the Mickey mouse apples. They are actually pretty easy to make at home. Just follow these steps below. Watch a video of Disney parks making the Mickey Mouse Candy Apple.

  1. Dip your apple in caramel and allow to set. Once set, trim any excess caramel on the bottom with scissors.
  2. Cut about 1/8 of the marshmallow off the bottom. Then stick 2 of them on top of the apple to create the ears.
  3. Dip the entire apple in semi-sweet chocolate. Allow to set.
  4. Once the chocolate has set, dip about 1-inch of the bottom of the apple in white chocolate.
  5. Then sprinkle the white chocolate with red sprinkles. Allow to set.
  6. Dip 2 yellow jelly beans or chocolate candies into the chocolate and then press into the apple. Tilt on it’s side if you need them to stay put, until they dry.

Expert Tips

  • Exercise patience! This is the key to making these apples. If you don’t allow the caramel to set before dipping it into the white chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate, you will have a gooey mess on the countertop and your hands.
  • Green apples, like a Granny Smith apple, are best to use. The tart apple balances the sweet caramel and chocolate.
  • Store your Disney caramel apples in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • If stored in the fridge, bring to room temp before serving.

And there you have it, two of my favorite Disney caramel apples. Aren’t they just so adorable?!

Decorated caramel apples just like the ones at Disneyland! Learn how to make two adorable versions of copycat Disney caramel apples that your kids will love!
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Chilling: 3 hours
Total Time: 3 hours 20 minutes
Servings: 4

Equipment

  • popsicle sticks

Ingredients

  • 4-5 Granny Smith apples , large sized
  • 10 onces Brach's Milk Maid Caramels , unwrapped
  • 6 graham crackers , regular sized blended into crumbs
  • 10 ounces white chocolate melting wafers , I use Ghiradelli
  • 8 marshmallows
  • cinnamon sugar

Instructions

  • Prepare a large baking sheet with parchment paper to set apples after dipping.
  • Melt caramel according to package directions.
  • While the caramel melts, wash and dry apples then pierce apples with a popsicle stick.
  • Dip your apples in the caramel, place on prepared baking sheet and allow to set. Once set, trim any excess caramel on the bottom with scissors.
  • Cut about 1/8 of each marshmallow off the bottom. Then stick 2 of them on top of each apple to create the ears. If you don’t want to make the Disney version, leave these off.
  • Melt white chocolate melting wafers according to package directions and process graham crackers into crumbs using a food processor. Set aside graham crackers in large shallow bowl.
  • Dip each caramel apple into the white chocolate, allowing excess to drip off.
  • Place caramel apple into the bowl of graham cracker crumbs. Allow to set in the bowl a minute and then press the graham crackers onto the sides.
  • Sprinkle the top half with cinnamon sugar then place on parchment paper to set.

Notes

  • Mickey Mouse candy apple: Dip entire apple in melted semi-sweet chocolate, allow to set. Dip 1-inch of the bottom half of apple into melted white chocolate then sprinkle the white chocolate portion with red sprinkles. Add two yellow jelly beans for the buttons.
  • I often use Peter’s Caramel for this recipe but it comes in a large quantity so if you only need caramel for this recipe, Brach’s and Kraft are easily found at the grocery store.
