Chocolate chip cookie pie is SO easy to make and is a family favorite! It’s the perfect pie for non-pie fans at the holiday dinner. Seriously, who can resist the best chocolate chip cookie baked in a pie crust that is filled with caramel? Your sweet tooth will thank you.
Chocolate Chip Pie Recipe Ingredients
All you need is 3 simple ingredients: a store-bought pie ready made crust, store-bought cookie dough and a can of dulce de leche. It’s my version of copycat Toll House pie!
Find the full printable recipe with specific measurements below.
- Pie crust: Pick up a store bought pie crust to make things easier, or make this homemade pie crust if you have more time.
- Cookie dough: I used a roll of Nestle chocolate chip cookie dough. If you want to make it from scratch you can use my Toll House cookie recipe or this chocolate chip cookie recipe.
- Dulce De Leche: This is a caramelized milk aka caramel that comes in a can. I prefer the Nestle Le Lechara brand.
How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie
There are no dirty bowls, no measuring flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, or other ingredients. No need to stir wet ingredients with dry ingredients. It’s better than Nestle Toll House pie!
- Add half of the cookie dough over the bottom of the crust.
- Spread dulce de leche over top of the chocolate chip cookie dough.
- Form disks of dough and gently press over top of the caramel until it is covered.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
Tips for the Best Chocolate Chip Pie
- No crust version. You can make this recipe in a cast iron skillet without the pie crust similar to a pizookie or make these chocolate chip bar cookies instead.
- Homemade crust: This all butter pie crust recipe really makes this pie special!
- Decorations. Sometimes I like to add extra chocolate chips to the top to make it look prettier. I just added a border of chocolate chips and made a heart in the center.
- Making ahead. This dessert can easily be made ahead of time. If you want to serve it warm, bake in the oven at 200°F for 3-5 minutes right before serving. You can also warm each piece in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Toppings. While decadent on it’s own, it’s even better with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, caramel sauce or hot fudge and some nuts like pecans.
Recipe FAQs
Of course! I like to serve it warm because I love it topped with ice cream and hot fudge, but enjoy it any way you like.
Not at all. Feel free to make your own homemade pie crust, any chocolate chip cookie recipe for the dough and caramel sauce. You can even make this homemade cookie cake recipe if you prefer!
Similar! But Derby pie traditionally has walnuts added in and not caramel.
Store covered at room temperature for 3-5 days or you can also keep it covered in the refrigerator. You could also wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and place in a freezer safe container for 2 months. Thaw and enjoy.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie
Ingredients
- 1 (30-ounce) package chocolate chip cookie dough (I used Nestle)
- 1 9-inch pie shell , divided (no need to pre-bake)
- ¼ cup dulce de leche (canned caramel)
Optional: Semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips (for decorating the top), Vanilla ice cream, Hot fudge, Caramel sauce
Instructions
- Prep. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
- Add cookie dough to pie crust. Spread 1/2 cookie dough over the bottom of the pie crust. Top evenly with the 1/4 cup dulce de leche over top of the dough.
- Add cookie dough over dulce de leche. Spread enough dough to cover the dulce de leche. You don't need to use all of the cookie dough (I only used about 3/4 of the package). Top with extra chocolate chips, if desired.
- Bake. Place on a baking sheet and bake 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is crisp and the center is cooked. It's okay for the pie to be slightly gooey in the center. I prefer it that way.
- Cool. Remove from oven and let cool a few minutes on a wire rack. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of hot fudge or caramel, if desired.
Notes
- Homemade ingredients. Feel free to make your own homemade pie crust, chocolate chip cookie dough and caramel sauce.
- No crust version. You can also make this recipe in a cast iron skillet without the pie crust (similar to a pizookie). Just press the dough into the skillet and bake until the edges are slightly golden.

Do you think you could use a graham cracker crust?
I haven’t tried, but that should work. You would just need to press the dough and then gently spread on top, so you don’t break the crust :)
Cookie pie is best! I love how the edges get crispy but the middle stays soft and gooey, and the layer if dulce takes to the next level! Yum!
