Refreshing Homemade Blueberry Lemonade Recipe
Summer is great because the days are longer and we get to spend time outside if it’s not too hot. I believe my kids would live outside if I’d let them. Some of my family’s favorite things about summer are lemonade and the fruit from the local farms. Blueberries are in season right now, so I thought I would marry the two and create a delicious blueberry lemonade recipe.
I love the flavor combination of blueberries and lemon and that’s no exception in this delicious summer beverage. It’s not too tangy, not too sweet, it is just right. I mean, how could you go wrong with such a beautiful drink?!
Why This is the Best Blueberry Lemonade
- Only 4 ingredients. This recipe is made with simple ingredients that I bet you already have in your fridge and pantry.
- Refreshing. This is the perfect thirst quencher to cool off with on a hot summer day.
- Kid-friendly. Not just for adults, my kids can’t get enough of this flavorful blueberry lemonade!
- Bright flavors. The citrusy lemon paired with the sweet blueberry is the perfect combination of flavors!
Ingredients Needed
You only need 4 simple ingredients to make homemade blueberry lemonade recipe. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
- Water: Just like when making classic lemonade, the base of this recipe starts with 4 to 5 cups of cold water. Make sure to save about 1 cup to blend with the blueberries.
- Blueberries: Sweet, juicy blueberries are the star of this recipe. I tend to use fresh blueberries when in season, however frozen blueberries also work great. Just make sure to thaw them first.
- Lemon juice: The bright, citrusy flavor comes from the lemon juice. Freshly squeezed lemon juice (instead of store-bought) will give you the best results. If you love lemon flavor, feel free to add more to taste.
- Sugar: Granulated sugar is used to sweeten this delicious beverage and helps balance out the sourness from the fresh lemon juice. Taste as you go and add more or less depending on your preference.
Variations
- Use sparkling water instead of plain water to give it a little fizz.
- Swap blueberries for blackberries, raspberries or strawberries.
- Use honey in place of granulated sugar for a healthier alternative.
- Substitute lemon juice for fresh lime juice to make blueberry limeade.
How to Make Blueberry Lemonade
- Blend. Start by blending together the fresh blueberries with 1 cup of water until it forms a smooth puree.
- Strain. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain the blueberry puree into a large pitcher. I like to press down on the puree with the bottom of a spoon to help excrete the juices. If the puree is on the thicker side, you may need to strain the mixture a few times.
- Mix. Now it’s time to add the other ingredients into the pitcher. Pour in the remaining cold water, freshly squeezed lemon juice and sugar. Give it a stir, then taste. At this point you can adjust the flavor to your liking by adding in more sugar, lemon juice or water. Then place in the refrigerator to chill.
- Serve. Pour the chilled blueberry lemonade into glasses over ice and serve with your favorite garnishes!
Garnishes
Now for the fun part – serving the blueberry lemonade! Pour into mason jars over ice and garnish with blueberries, lemon slices and fresh mint leaves. I like to use frozen blueberries for garnishing, that way they stay cold longer.
How to Store Blueberry Lemonade
Store any leftover blueberry lemonade in a covered pitcher or jar in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. I recommend adding ice to the individual glasses right before serving, instead of adding to the pitcher so that the ice doesn’t melt and make the lemonade more watery.
Any leftover lemonade would also be great for making homemade popsicles! Simply pour the mixture into popsicle molds and then freeze until solid.

Awesomely refreshing
Easy and delicious!
I made this recipe with fresh blueberries and the appearance was very unappetizing. Ended up scrapping the first batch and using frozen for the second. It was much better and looked like images used for this post.
